Your Guide To Jane Austen Movies & Shows On Streaming

Welcome to Decider’s SINGLE LADIES WEEK, a celebration of all our favorite singletons and working women in pop culture. From The Golden Girls to Mindy Lahiri, we’re wishing all of our favorite single ladies a very happy Galentine’s Day Week.

Hollywood owes a lot to Jane Austen.

The whip-smart, ground-breaking British novelist built perfectly-plotted novels that laid the template for almost every popular romance we obsess over today. So it should come as no surprise that there are a lot of Jane Austen film adaptations. I mean, there are almost too many. Every time I log onto any streaming service, I feel like another one smacks me in the face.

Decider counted down its Top 10 favorite adaptations years ago, but there are new films to add to the pantheon (and new streaming options available to super fans in 2017). Rather than drill down on every modern adaptation of Pride & Prejudice ever made, we’re going to give you an overview of where to stream the best — and best-known* — film and television adaptations of Austen’s oeuvre. From Emma to Persuasion, Mansfield Park to the unpublished Lady Susan, here’s your guide to Jane Austen on Streaming In 2017. These are the essentials.

*A lot of the BBC and ITV miniseries versions are stellar, but they come and go like phantoms from streaming, leading us to omit them from this particular list.
