Final Shots: Amazon Announces Their Next Batch Of Comedy Pilots

Amazon has announced their next batch of Prime Video comedy pilots, for which subscribers will be able to vote to determine the platform’s next set of original series. The nominees include three new half-hour pilots that will debut on August 19.

According to a press release, the trio of brand new pilots include a television reboot of The Tick, I Love Dick, and Jean-Claude Van Johnson. I Love Dick is based on the renowned feminist novel about a Marfa, Texas couple’s marital struggles and Jean-Claude Van Johnson stars Jean-Claude Van Damme who plays an undercover contractor disguised by the show’s not-so-different alias. The noteworthy pilots were conceived by famed creators Peter Atencio, Ben Edlund, Barry Josephson, Ridley Scott,and Jill Soloway. They also feature prominent actors including Kevin Bacon, Kathryn Hahn, and Jackie Earle Haley, in addition to Van Damme.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is set to star in Adam Sandler’s next Netflix original feature, Sandy Wexler. Directed by Steven Brill, the film will star Sandler as a hard-working L.A. talent manager. Wexler finds himself representing a talented and aspiring singer named Courtney Clarke (played by Hudson) whom he consequently falls in love with. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Hulu has nabbed the U.S. streaming rights to French production studio Cyber Group’s animated kids series, Zorro the Chronicles. The celebrated 26×22-minute series is an action comedy geared towards children ages 6 to 12 and will be available in both English and Spanish as of July 23. [Worldscreen]

At Comic-Con, Amazon revealed that they are close to locking in a deal with Clerks. mastermind Kevin Smith for his TV version of the 1984 sci-fi cult flick, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. The brand new series would premiere on Prime Video sometime within the next year. [Deadline]

Netflix has posted the main trailer for Season 2 of its celebrated original series, Narcos. In the second season, notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar is on the run yet again, with Colombian authorities in continued hot pursuit. All new episodes will premiere on September 2 despite recent licensing threats made by Pablo’s actual brother, Roberto Escobar.
