The whole point of a binge-watch is to mainline entertainment and there is nothing as entertaining as watching something completely mind-blowing. Whether you’re looking for crazy gore, insane science fiction, or thought-provoking weirdness, the ten titles on this list are sure to leave you asking yourself, “WTF?”

1

‘Salem’

WGN America

In terms of pure bonkers entertainment, Salem really takes the cake. As a series about the Salem witch trials, it could be a serious, plodding meditation on our social prejudices, but instead it’s a crazy horror adventure series that features girls on leashes, voodoo dolls, frogs being nursed by naked ladies, demon babies, and this girl puking blood from a crucifix. The first deliriously fun season is now on Netflix and the second season debuts next month. [Watch Salem]

‘Danger 5’

Dinosaur

Do you like Austin Powers, but wish there were more dinosaurs, people with bird heads, awkwardly sexist jokes, and crazy dumb special effects? What about Hitler? Do you wish Austin Powers was taking on Adolf Hitler? Then you have to watch the deliriously wonderful Australian spy satire series, Danger 5, right now. [Watch Danger 5]

4

‘Pretty Little Liars’

CW

It might seem a little lame to put an ABC Family soap opera on this list, what with the blood-puking Puritan girl already on the list, but Pretty Little Liars is the one show on television that seems totally committed to not making any sense. Who’s A? Who isn’t A? Who’s dead? Who’s alive? When do these girls find the time to do homework? They are in high school, after all! [Watch Pretty Little Liars]

5

‘American Horror Story’

American Horror Story ups the ante on being truly bonkers by being the kookiest and creepiest anthology series on television right now. It’s not enough that there are ghosts and gimps in the first series. No! The second season needs Nazis and nuns! The third needs witches and resurrections! And the fourth? Well the fourth season gave us butts and a boy with fleshy lobster claws for hands. [Watch American Horror Story]

6

‘Hemlock Grove’

Netflix

Hemlock Grove is Netflix’s dark and creepy take on the horror genre and it’s super gross, super crazy, and super bonkers. How bonkers? I’ve seen the first season and can’t even begin to tell you what was going on. I think it’s werewolves. Yeah, werewolves. Or beast people. Or psychopathic teens. [Watch Hemlock Grove]

7

‘The X-Files’

The X-Files was the show that asked the question, “Can you make a crime procedural that makes its audiences terrified of everything?” For almost ten years, we watched as Scully, Mulder, and that liquid metal Terminator dude (aka Robert Patrick) investigated aliens, government conspiracies, and mutant monsters. It’s a landmark show and it’s NOT GOING OFF NETFLIX at the end of the month, so you can totes watch it at your leisure. [Watch The X-Files]

8

‘Fringe’

Fringe is a cult science fiction hit about alternate universes, fringe technology, and people with trust issues. It combined the best of what The X-Files had to offer with a healthy dose of the bonkers storytelling style pioneered by J.J. Abrams and his cohorts on Alias and Lost. [Watch Fringe]

9

‘Twin Peaks’

David Lynch’s Twin Peaks is so original and influential that it is still winning fervent fans and inspiring show runners today. The series isn’t crazy because of an excess of gore or a lack of strong narrative. Rather, what makes Twin Peaks so unnerving and so riveting is how it totally encapsulates Lynch’s warped view of the universe. [Watch Twin Peaks]

10

‘Black Mirror’

If there’s one show on Netflix that’s guaranteed to unsettle you with its imagery and rivet you with its imagination, it’s Charlie Brooker’s brilliant Black Mirror. The anthology series shows us how close we are at letting technology nudge us into the abyss and will leave you both terrified of humanity and desperate for more. [Watch Black Mirror]
