Two fan favorites won’t be appearing on season five of Game of Thrones, but this time at least it isn’t because they’re being killed off. While the cast and crew of HBO’s mega-popular fantasy epic have decamped to Croatia to film the series’ next slate of episodes, Kristian Nairn is currently gallivanting around Australia on the Rave of Thrones DJ tour. Why isn’t he at work back in Europe, you ask? Well, because, as he revealed in an interview with Australian Broadcasting Corporation (via Uproxx), his character, the loveable Hodor, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright’s Bran Stark don’t have any screen time next year.  “We’re not actually in Season Five, by the way. We have a season off. We have a year’s hiatus.” The Irish actor went on to say that he imagines they were given the year off because, “our storyline is up to the end of the books.”

  • First there was the leaked script. Then came the trailer. And now The Hateful Eight has a released date. Well, a release window. Quentin Tarantino‘s ninth film, which will be distributed by the Weinstein Company, is due out Fall 2015. And if that wasn’t enough to get cinephiles excited, the movie will also get “the widest 70mm release in over 20 years.” [Indiewire]
  • That was fast. Fox’s Gotham hasn’t even premiered yet, but Netflix has already snapped up the exclusive streaming rights to the Batman prequel series. [Deadline]
  • The Rock is the latest Hollywood heavyweight to sign on to a superhero movie. Only, he’ll be playing the villain. The wrestler announced that he’ll be playing Black Adam, the archrival of Shazam (formerly known as Captain Marvel) in an upcoming feature. [Twitter]
  • Dax Shepard is set to write, direct and star in a screen version of CHiPS. The Parenthood star will play Officer Jon Baker, while Michael Peña is set to play Officer Frank “Ponch” Poncherello. [Deadline]
