Powered by Reelgood

Summer is finally here, so it’s absolutely the right time to avoid beautiful weather to stay inside, where you can soak up the sweet air conditioning and catch these brand new, hot June releases from Netflix.

Available June 1:

  • Apocalypse Now Redux (2001)
  • Barbershop(2002)
  • Carrie (1976)
  • Clear and Present Danger (1994)
  • Cold Mountain(2003)
  • El Dorado(1966)
  • Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998)
  • Funny Lady (1975)
  • Harriet the Spy (1996)
  • I.Q. (1994)
  • Left Behind: The Movie (2000)
  • Reign Over Me (2007)
  • Rudy (1993)
  • Swept Away (2002)
  • The Adventures of Milo and Otis (1989)
  • The Craft (1996)
  • The Returned (2013)
  • The Stepford Wives (2004)
  • The Triplets of Belleville (2003)
  • Trailer Park Boys Live In F**kin’ Dublin (2014)
  • Trailer Park Boys: Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys (2010)

WATCH FIRST: The Craft. The 1996 cult classic about teen witches has enough scares and sex to appease the biggest bro in your viewing club, but it’s also a weirdly on point film about the magic and monstrousness of some female friendships.

Available June 3:

  • Devil’s Knot (2013)
  • The Glades: Season 4

WATCH FIRST: As much as we are proponents of watching everything both Colin Firth and Dane DeHaan do, Devil’s Knot might be a bit heavy for most people on a Tuesday. So, why not watch another June 1 release? Like Barbershop?

Available June 4:

  • Romeo & Juliet (2013)

WATCH FIRST: Go ahead and dip into the lush retelling of Romeo & Juliet, if only to laugh at Ed Westwick’s horrible hair as Tybalt. That said, if the Bard isn’t your jam, Rudy was put back into rotation on June 1.

Available June 6:

  • Girl Most Likely (2012)
  • Luther: Season 3 (2011)
  • Orange Is the New Black: Season 2 (2014)

WATCH FIRST: Orange Is The New Black. Duh.

Available June 7:

  • The Art of the Steal (2013)

WATCH FIRST: Sure, dig into The Art of the Steal if you’re a mega Kurt Russell fan, but if you’re really in the mood for something awesome, both Clear and Present Danger (Harrison Ford being a badass) and El Dorado (John Wayne & Robert Mitchum being badasses) were both made available on June 1.

Available June 10:

  • Bonnie & Clyde (2013)
  • One Direction: Clevver’s Ultimate Fan Guide (2013)
  • Pretty Little Liars: Season 4 (2013)

WATCH FIRST: Bonnie & Clyde just picked up some Critics Choice Awards nominations, but screw that. Make sure you’re up-to-date on one of television’s most tweeted about shows: Pretty Little Liars.

Available June 13:

  • World War Z (2013)

WATCH FIRST: Really, you should listen to the star-studded audiobook version of Max Brooks’World War Z before seeing the movie, but we’re not going to dissuade you from watching one of Hollywood’s last true leading men tackle zombies.

Available June 14:

  • Toddlers & Tiaras: Season 7 (2012)

WATCH FIRST: If you’re looking for a horror story involving an underage beauty queen, Carrie was made available to stream on June 1.

Available June 15:

  • Return to Nim’s Island (2013)
  • The Pirate Fairy (2014)

WATCH FIRST: Between these two straight-to-video kids’ releases, we’re voting for The Pirate Fairy because it features Tom Hiddleston playing a young Captain Hook. Oh, and he sings.

Available June 16:

  • Jane Eyre (2011)

WATCH FIRST: Jane Eyre. Before you judge a film by its previous adaptations, this most-recent version is thrumming with sexuality thanks in no small part to the smoldering Michael Fassbender and the direction of True Detective‘s auteur, Cary Fukunaga.

Available June 17:

  • Heartland: Season 5 (2011)
  • Real Husbands of Hollywood: Season 2 (2014)
  • Wilfred: Season 3 (2013)

WATCH FIRST: You should definitely give the critically acclaimed Real Husbands of Hollywood a real try.

Available June 18:

  • Oldboy (2013)

WATCH FIRST: The original Korean Oldboy, which is not on Neflix, but Hulu Plus. Please, please, please watch the original before you dare watch the ill-received American remake.

Available June 20:

  • Comedy Bang! Bang!: Season 2 (2012)

WATCH FIRST: Comedy Bang! Bang! is one of those rare cult comedy gems that you may not be watching now, but you’ll definitely want to be able to namecheck it at hip parties for years to come. So, why not start watching it now?

Available June 22:

  • Copper: Season 2 (2013)

WATCH FIRST: If you want a really good British crime drama import, skip Copper and go back and watch Luther. Season 3 is due to be released on Netflix on June 6, which is great. It’s also bad, because that’s the same day Orange is the New Black‘s second season debuts. Don’t let it fall through the Netflix cracks.

Available June 23:

  • Tarzan (1999)
  • Tarzan 2 (2005)

WATCH FIRST: Tarzan. Even if you saw it ages ago, you can rewatch it with the uneasy knowledge that the guy voicing Tarzan is Tony Goldwyn, aka Fitz on Scandal.

Available June 24:

  • Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me (2013)
  • Gambit (2012)
  • Wolf Creek 2 (2013)
  • XXX: State of the Union (2005)

WATCH FIRST: Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me. She’s a living legend, and if you don’t know why, that’s all the more reason to watch this documentary ASAP.

Available June 2:

  • Turbo FAST: Season 1 (2013) – 5 additional episodes!

WATCH FIRST: Sure, you could feast on new episodes of Turbo FAST, but if you want a different kind of animated speed, The Triplets of Belleville was released on June 1.

Available June 29:

  • Lawless (2012)

WATCH FIRST: Lawless. Sure it’s the only film released today, but it’s a good one that features one of the most exciting casts of actors working today: Shia LaBoeuf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Dane DeHaan, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke & Guy Pierce. (Hi, again, Dane DeHaan.)

Available June 30:

  • My Girl (1991)
  • My Girl 2 (1994)
  • Sophie’s Choice (1982)

WATCH FIRST: We would happily make a quip that Netflix is giving us the “Sophie’s Choice” of tearjerkers to pick from on this day, but Sophie’s Choice is one of the films up for viewing. In any case, our vote goes to the original My Girl. It’s a beautiful, seminal film and if you feel too raw afterwards, you can comfort yourself by watching a grown up, successful and well-adjusted Anna Chlumsky killing it on Veep on HBO GO.
